Bringing light into households

The project was organized by Mr. Vivek Shenoy, from
Eating the sun charitable trust, a registered non-profit
organization that aims to bring light into millions of
households. The field trip was a thrilling and satisfying
experience for Abhishek, Nithin, Lavithra, Aman, Moosa
Izzat (Students of class XI) along with Mrs Akhila Thykeel
(teacher ). The project has lightened up the lives of two
families in Bhagamandala , Coorg on 20.10.16. It has
provided hands on experience for the children in
installation of the components for harnessing solar energy. Mr. Vivek Shenoy with
The children got an opportunity to interact with the the DPSBN team
            families.

After installation, children had a wonderful time at night as
they had a kind of camping experience. The children
interacted and exchanged their ideas with Mr. Vivek
Shenoy. They really enjoyed the field trip. They will
continue their project to make a working model using solar
                                              energy.

                  internal wiring

“Light up lives’’ project has indeed lit up the lives of two families in Chilandavadi village in
Kanakpura range who never had light in their houses . It was one of the most satisfying and
touching experiences for the children of DPS, BN. On the 24th of August, Anupa, Deesha,
Paras, Sidharth, Arjun and Sanchit.(class IX students) along with Mrs. Akhila Thykeel
(teacher) from Delhi Public School got the rare opportunity of doing something truly
extraordinary through the 'Light Up Lives' project. Parikrma partnered with DPS and
Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Rural Energy (MGIRED) to raise funds and provide solar
lighting system to two houses in a hamlet located in the Kanakapura Wildlife Range.
Parikrma Humanity Foundation offers high quality education, hope and support to
thousands of children from four orphanages and over 70 slums in the city. Parikrma focuses
on the real meaning of education and development. Parikrma’s mission is to unleash the
potential of underserved children, enabling them to live their life on equal terms and become
valuable contributing members of society. The project comprised of a workshop on
configuration of the Home Lighting System using Solar Energy on August 17, at MGIRED,
Jakkur and an installation project in Chilandavadi village in
Kanakpura range on August 24, 2016. In the workshop
conducted by Dr. Muralidhar from MGIRED, children had hands
on experience in installing the different parts of the solar
                                          powered lighting system.

The two houses are mud huts with thatched roofs and have no
form of electricity. The students along with the MGIRED team
took a day out, visited the hamlet, spent time with the family
Parikrma team with and finally lit up their lives, all in a day's span.
