A worker describes how they were taken hostage:
On the morning of the holiday we planned to make a state-
ment in front of Tayyip Erdogan’s house.
We had publicised the action in the media beforehand. If we
were prevented from making the statement in front of the house,
we would make it at the spot where we were stopped. But even an
hour before we left the factory, 15 plainclothes police including
police chiefs gathered. We did not forget to mark the holiday. We
set out accompanied by lawyers. Plainclothes police followed after
us in a hurry. They stopped the bus before we even reached the
Anatolian side of Istanbul. They tried to detain us. We argued
with them a great deal. What do you mean, there can be no action
there? They said they would organise the GBT. A police chief said,
“We will not let you carry out this action.” They tried to detain us
by force. People supported us resisting the police attempt to detain
us. They reacted negatively to the police. They did not want us to
