Kazova Workers: We Won’t Take Our Hands Off Your
Collar Until We Get Our Rights
Kazova Trikotaj workers have been denied four months of
wages, as well as seniority and compensation, and were thrown
out of work three months ago, and since 27 February when they
started resistance they have been in front of the factory every
Wednesday, like this week.
At 1 pm on Wednesday 10 April, they gathered in front of
Sisli mosque, put on smocks and opened a banner with the in-
scription “We will not let the bosses of Kazova Textiles, Umit So-
muncu and Mustafa Umut Somuncu, take away our rights”. They
started a march in front of the factory, chanting the slogans “Ka-
zova workers are not alone, we don’t want charity, we want our
rights, we are workers, we won’t let Umit Somuncu take away our
rights, we are right, we will win”. They gained support from work-
ers in the area, who applauded. They issued a press statement in
front of the factory:
“Our bosses Umit Somuncu and Mustafa Umut Somuncu
have been hiding for months. As on every Sunday we went last
Sunday to the house of Umit Somuncu but found that he had
hurriedly left as he had not paid his rent to his landlord. Our
bosses had previously made many promises and in spite of selling
the building they have not given us what they owe us. Here we ad-
dress the people who have bought the building. As workers, we
have rights in this building. As resisting workers, we call for the
