Following the call months earlier by the DIH (Revolutionary
Workers’ Movement) Saturday actions to unite the struggles of
workers in resistance are continuing to grow.

Within this time frame the struggles of Cansel Malatyali, Re-
seteks, Darkmen and Bedas workers won.

For over a year, the workers of Hey textiles carried out Satur-
day actions on their own to get their rights from their bosses Aynur

and Sureyya Bektas. In weeks past, after not being paid their wages
for four months, as well as being denied bonuses, salaries, seniority
and compensation, the Kazova textile workers who were fired on
31 January 2013 by their bosses Umit Somuncu and Mustafa
Umut Somuncu and began resistance had also participated. This
week, the Sisli municipal workers started resistance and set up a
protest tent against both Mustafa Sarigul (translator’s note: a

prominent CHP politician in Istanbul) and the collaborationist
board leadership of the Genel-Is trade union.

On the afternoon of Saturday, 18 May 2013, in the 29th week
the workers gathered again in Taksim. The Hey textile workers
gathered behind a banner with the inscription “We want our
work, our bread and our rights! We will get them! We are right,
we will win”, with another banner proclaiming “We will get back
the rights taken from us”, and the Kazova textile workers with a
banner stating “We will not let the bosses of Kazova Textiles, Umit

Somuncu and Mustafa Umut Somuncu, take away our rights” and
the Sisli municipality workers with a banner carrying the inscrip-
tion “In our trade union we won the election – we will not sur-
render to Mustafa Sarigul and the yellow trade union” all formed
into corteges and marched towards Galatasaray high school.
