“They wanted to remove the goods inside the factory and
plunder them. They succeeded in doing this with a large part of
them. By pitching the tent in front of the factory on 29 April we
wanted to put a stop to this. Last week they tried to get in and
dismantle the sign but we would not allow it. As far as we know
the factory now belongs to Perzoni. We went and talked to him.
He said: ‘I did not send anyone for the sign. It was not my men
who came, moreover they did not hand over the key to me. I
closed it because of your bosses’ debt. We also talked about what
is owed to you. I gave it to him in cash. I am not the person you
are addressing. They will empty it out by the end of the month
and I will tear it down and turn it into a hotel,” he said.
But he is wrong. We are among those he should address.
When we are here resisting for our rights, why did you give them
money? It was necessary to inform us as we have our rights in deal-
ings with our boss, and they stressed that the resistance would go
on until they got their rights.
Their Bosses Have Been Pushed Into A Corner
The Kazova textile workers, who were thrown out of work on
31 January by their bosses Umit Somuncu and Mustafa Umut So-
muncu, are continuing their actions.
On Friday 31 May they went in front of the Calik Holding
building where Umit Somuncu’s daughter Gaye works as director
of communications, with the aim of reading out a press statement
and meeting her. Before they got there, there was a call from the
company threatening them, saying that “if you come here we will
call the police”. The threat did not stop them from carrying out
