      Regional Announcement

After many years as the Region 1 Director Certification Program Coordinator, Priscilla Schoelzel is stepping
down. In this role she was required to stay current with DCP requirements and changes issued by Sweet
Adelines International. At the regional level, Priscilla administered DCP modules, reviewed and graded the
tests and notified SAI and the DCP candidates of their test results, all of which necessitated Priscilla attend
all Regional weekend events. She also opened her home to participants. Our DCP participants and all
regional members who benefit from those who pursue and achieve becoming a Certified Director are so
grateful for Priscilla’s dedication to this position.

In May 2024 Priscilla will have achieved 60 years of membership in Sweet Adelines! Region 1 has been so
fortunate that she has spent all of those years here with us. Priscilla first sang with the Marblehead Harbor
Belles, then the Lynn Chorus and then to the Beverly Chorus all of which hailed from the Boston area.
Priscilla sang tenor not only with these choruses but also with a few pick up quartets. When the Beverly
Chorus folded, Priscilla made the decision to become a Chapter at Large member which she has been for
many years now. Priscilla has stayed active as a Regional contributor throughout her tenure in Region 1. In
addition to being the DCP Coordinator, she has been a member of the Regional Board of Directors, served as
Regional Treasurer, Competition Coordinator, Vice-Regent, Secretary, Director of Musical Activities and
By-Laws and Standing Rules Chair. Of course, there are many untitled jobs that Priscilla has done over the
60 years. She has given much of herself to Sweet Adelines and Region 1.

Priscilla grew up in western Massachusetts in the town of Adams. She came to the Boston area as a young
woman and spent many years working in banking, specifically in the savings bank insurance industry. She is
still working part time in this industry. Before stepping back from full time work, she had been the Assistant
Vice-President for her company. She is clearly a dedicated asset to all organizations she serves.

Priscilla has always loved to travel; many of her trips were Sweet Adeline related. She attended one of the
very first internationally held International Conventions. She has many, many fond memories of trips and
lots of stories to tell. Next time you see Priscilla, ask her about the time she and Barbara Farrell were on the
“wrong” side of the Brandenburg Gate at check-point Charlie trying to cross into Berlin!

Like many Sweet Adelines, Priscilla is grateful for the opportunities that membership in Sweet Adelines has
afforded her. She credits these opportunities with strengthening her as an individual. The friendships and the
love of Sweet Adelines and Region 1 have kept her dedication and connections strong all these years.

Priscilla, as you step down as the DCP Coordinator, all of us in Region 1 send you a heartfelt thank you!
