GOOD MEDICINE
          MUSIC IS GOOD MEDICINE

M usic has the power to make us feel good! We sing when we’re happy or sad, in love or suffering from heartache.

We sing to our loved ones, babies, co-workers, and favorite sports team. Singing is proven to improve your
health, both physically and mentally. Here’s a couple of strong reasons why singing is a habit worth forming.
It’s proven that music can be a great mood booster. Your favorite song doesn’t just sound good – it also feels
good for your mental health. Several reports highlight research showing music’s positive effect on emotional well-being by
decreasing anxiety, lowering blood pressure, and managing stress.
Several mechanisms explain the powerful impact music
can have. It starts in the brain where music activates
many regions, including those associated with emotion
and memory. Think about the music that was played
at your wedding, at a dance or party, music festival or
even in church – that music remains preserved for those
neuropathways that connect that music with positive feelings.
Music provides comfort and relaxation. No wonder
they say that MUSIC IS GOOD MEDICINE at any age.
For seniors, the benefits are even greater. Managing stress
is an important skill to master, especially for older people.
The soothing power of music is extremely effective as a stress
management tool. Music prevents heart rate and blood pressure
from increasing and decreases the stress hormone, cortisol.
These days many business trainers make a weekly karaoke visit an
indispensable part of their education programs because it is a great team
building social activity with many benefits!

KARAOKE RELIEVES STRESS: Singing releases the “feel good” hormones
and endorphins that help reduce anxiety and stress.
KARAOKE IMPROVES COGNITIVE MEMORY: Singing stimulates the
memory, learning, and concentration areas of the brain.
KARAOKE HELPS YOU EXPRESS YOUR FEELINGS: Songs evoke
feelings like joy and love. We choose songs that typically have an emotional
connection for us, allowing us to release feelings in a healthy way.
KARAOKE BUILDS CONFIDENCE: Singing in front of people takes
courage, but your self-confidence and self-esteem will increase dramatically
         after singing your first song.
KARAOKE IS A POWERFUL SOCIAL ACTIVITY: When people sing
together, they feel an increased sense of community, connection,
         camaraderie, and bonding!
