Dream Crushers, Idea Killers

        AND FUN SUCKERS

H ow many of you have had a dream? As kids we had many dreams, we had dreams

that we would become firefighters, astronauts, scientists, doctors, and dreams of
                   inventions and travelling the world.
As we grew up, the world got a hold of us and we became discouraged by the
dream crushers, the idea killers, and the fun suckers: those people who have been held back
from their own dreams. As a child, I recall a kid telling me that his mother said my imagination
was too big, as if that was a bad thing.
For some people, this kind of comment can lead to fear of judgment which leads to
reluctance to express themselves. Dreams are often left behind for more “practical”
ways of being. It’s easy to lose the dream and ignore the urges to be and do something
different. We become misaligned with our purpose.
It makes sense that venturing into self-employment it is scary because there is fear
of judgment, and there is self-doubt as we have been conditioned for years to not
trust ourselves. We believe that the vision we have is somehow not good enough
and that working for yourself is not a “real” job.

Not living our dreams creates stress and tension, which suppresses
creativity. Play and fun are where creativity and imagination live and are
often the first casualties when we join the workplace and adulthood for
        that matter.
So what can we do? We can learn to play again. So many clients,
including myself at one time, have forgotten or never learned how
to play and have fun. Giving yourself permission to feel again, to
tolerate more joy in your life, leads you back to your dreams
which aligns to what excites you.
Whatever gives you energy is the first ingredient to creating
successful dreams. The second ingredient is having a dream
that propels you forward, moves you in the direction of the
dream, and is big enough to allow you to grow.
There will always be roadblocks along the way, some
from people who don’t see the dream. Only you can
hold tight to your dream because you are the keeper
        and the creator.
Dream Big. Give yourself permission to let go of
the dream crusher, idea killer, and fun sucker. We
only have one life and limited time to do all we
want to do in this world, so hold on tight to your
dreams and take the steps to make them reality.
