Th e Major Modernization Program for the New York Hospital Queens provided an upgrade and consolidation of patient care services.
To achieve these goals New York Hospital Queens retained Barr & Barr in early 2005 to manage and implement the $119,000,000
         Modernization Program.

Th e Modernization Program included a new seven story, 200,000 s.f. West Wing Addition and 30,000 s.f. of renovations to
adjoining areas of the existing hospital. A 372 car Parking Structure was also built to replace the existing parking structure that
was demolished for the construction of the new West Wing Addition.

Th e New York Hospital Queens’ Major Modernization Program while considered one project had two distinct structures; the
Parking Structure and the West Wing Addition. Each structure had distinct and unique challenges. Th e Parking Structure was
constructed on a site that was prominently residential – located across the street from the existing emergency entrance; it had private
residences on two sides and a retail facility on another side. Th e West Wing Addition was constructed on the lot of the former
parking structure located in front of the existing hospital –the new addition would connect to two of the existing hospital buildings.

During preconstruction and the development of our site logistics plans Barr & Barr determined that the best way to service our
client and the needs of these unique structures was to establish two separate Project Teams focused solely on their respective project.
Each Project Manager would report to a Senior Project Manager who in turn would report to the Executive Team, made up of the
Owner, Architect and Barr & Barr’s Project Executive. Each Project Team was responsible for managing, monitoring and reporting
monthly on construction status, schedule, project fi nances and all necessary logs for their respective projects.
