THE LOST VERBS
Truth to Teach (Source)
Further practice on using and identifying past and present tense verbs.
Way to Work (Means)
1. Review the past lessons on verbs.
2. Let the children go around the room with rough books to write down the verbs from
the sentences (see separate sheet) pinned around the room.
3. Gather back to share, writing the verbs on the board in two lists of past and present
verbs.
4. Draw a river on the board and let the children suggest verbs to describe the flow of a
river, e.g. swishing, swirling, splashing, pouring, and gushing.
5. Talk about verbs which could be used to describe a thunderstorm, e.g. crashing,
flashing, thundering, deafening.
6. Remind the children of how they looked for lost nouns in a story; now they are to look
for lost verbs in one of Aesop’s Fables.
7. Let the children complete the worksheet.
Learning for Life (Fulfilment)
1. The children will be increasingly confident in identifying and using past and present
