Science Y1 – Energy and movement - overview
Energy and Movement
Truth to Teach (Source)
‘
Romans 12:21 The Bible exhorts us to overcome evil with good’
1. Pushes and pulls are opposite forces and act in the same way as good and
evil are also opposites.
2. All moving things have energy.
3. We move things by pushes and pulls. God need only speak!
4. Friction is an opposite push or pull. It is a rubbing; it works to slow down
or stop movement.
5. Different surfaces give rise to more or less friction.
6. Many factors may influence a particular event like a toy vehicle running
down slope. Scientists have to be aware of these variables and take them
into account in their experiments.
Learning for Life (Fulfilment)
1. For the children to grow in their awareness of overcoming evil with good.
2. For the children to grow in their understanding of the concept of forces,
including friction.
3. For them to consider variables in experiments and to attempt to devise fair
tests which take these into account.
4. For the children to be exposed to the fact that our scientific knowledge may
fall short of us finding the answers to our questions. We can however ask
God for wisdom to help us solve problems.
Way to Work (Means)
The topic will be taught through group lessons, and experiments and individual work.
