1. The children should understand more about God’s heart for families, both nuclear
and the world-wide family of believers.

2. They should appreciate and have a desire to follow God’s guidelines for family life.

Deuteronomy 32:4 ‘God’s works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful
God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.’

¾ The first family was God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

¾ Families go through hard and easy times.

¾ God’s plan is for children to be brought up in a loving family.

¾ We have no choice regarding the family into which we are born.

Way to Work (Means)

Before this lesson parents could be asked to send in a photograph of the family. (In some

year groups this may not be a sensitive thing to do.)

1. Explain that this term’s project is about families.

2. Let the children share about who lives in their home. Have they got older siblings who

live away? (Sensitivity will be needed if there are children of broken families.)
Some children will want to include their family pets.

3. Talk about God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit being the first family in

heaven. They worked together and enjoyed one another’s company just as families
should.
