particularly important prior to any comprehensive campaign. Yet, Dr. Chancellor
stands idly by -- offering no support.
Yet, late Friday afternoon -- September 2014 -- Alonzo receives a written
notice; a two-week suspension. Without warning, or prior notice of infraction, his
more than two decades of untarnished and outstanding professional career comes
crashing to an end. How on Earth is this possible? His productivity, even with a
skeleton staff, was never in question. Neither was his ability to manage a vast service
area of more than nine (9) southern parishes in question. Nonetheless, he finds
himself placed on suspension because of an email. An email that alleges the college
lost a six-figure donation due to Alonzo’s failure to respond to a prospective donor’s
request for additional information.
But, before the two-week suspension runs its course -- Alonzo receives a
certified mail from the Chancellor’s Office -- informing and relieving him of his
duties as the Executive Director of the college’s Foundation and vice chancellor for
Institutional Advancement. A decision on a phantom email that even the IT
department couldn’t locate on the institution’s Server. And Alonzo’s out the door --
tossed out of his illustrious career -- based on an unfounded email.
Nonetheless, those very familiar to the so termed, “house cleaning” fiasco
disagree -- postulating -- Alonzo was brought on board to develop the Institutional
Advancement division. Now that the Division is up and running his talent and
expertise were no longer needed; rather Dr. Chancellor’s friend gets hired to merely
keep the Division going. This argument is further substantiated by the fact that no
significant developments -- financial growth and expansion in SU Foundation reach
with its constituencies -- have occurred since Alonzo’s departure
