Getting on his feet, “hey ... What do you think you’re doing?”
The woman -- surprisingly -- is taken aback by his reaction; as if to imply,
Alonzo should have known about her. “Nothing. Just trying to strike up a
conversation with a fine brother.”
"Trust me, there is no fine brother here ..." stepping aside. "... Not interested
in whatever you're peddling."
"Peddling ... What are you talking about?"
"Listen, tell your pimp ... I'm not interested."
"Excuse you, Negro," forehead wrinkles. "Did you just call me a whore?"
Alonzo reaches for his wallet, pulls out a ten-dollar bill and slips it to Eric.
"Thanks, Eric." And walks away.
Stunned, the young woman grabs her purse and follows. Down the corridor,
between the elevators, she calls out. "Wait, wait up, Alonzo."
The astounded Alonzo turns for a nanosecond and stops short of the
elevators; then looks on as she approaches.
"Here's your ten. Don't need your charity."
"Do I know you?"
"Not exactly, but my --"
