constituent-specific initiatives; develop programming and benefits to strengthen
alumni tie and encourage enduring support of their alma mater; and foster creative
and quality communications -- internally and externally -- to keep stakeholders
accurately informed about institutional achievements and continued progress
toward educational excellence.
As the vice chancellor for institutional advancement (VCIA) and executive
director (ED) of the State University Foundation (SUF), Alonzo works closely with
the Chancellor (CEO) and the Foundation Board to support the mission of the
Institution. In reporting to the Chancellor, the VCIA is also the chief advancement
officer (CAO) and serves on the Chancellor's cabinet as well as works with academic
and administrative leaders to set the strategic direction for the execution of all fund
development, alumni relations, and communication relations activities. And in the
capacity of Executive Director of the College Foundation, the CAO works in a close
relation with a board which is comprised of many of the corporate and civic leaders
within the Institution's service area.
Strategically, the CAO serves as a top adviser to the college chancellor and
collaborates with the Foundation Board to set fundraising strategy as well as other
governance duties -- including nominating members to the Board -- its standing
committees: executive, finance, and development. And the CAO is actively involved
in the revenue/financial planning with the primary goal of advancing the revenue
and mission of the entire institution.
Tactically, the CAO provides leadership and direction to department Heads
enumerated above -- Directors of Office of Development; Office of Alumni Affairs;
Office of Marketing and PR; Office of Foundation and Advancement Services; and
Office of Governmental Affairs. Depending on the size of the institution, the Office of
Governmental Affairs liaisons and communicates with the legislative representatives
