OUR TRADITIONS
• To honor our Founders in appropriate fashion at all times, with
special recognition at annual Founders' Day observances
• To stand whenever the reigning Supreme Basileus enters an
assembly sponsored by Alpha Kappa Alpha; remembering
always that she is our elected leader and is "First Lady" of
Alpha Kappa Alpha
• To acknowledge the presence of our International and Local
officers, Founders and International Committee
representatives at meetings and on special occasions
• To extend appropriate chapter courtesy (via the Chapter
Basileus) to visiting International Officers and Honorary
Members
• To extend to the reigning Chapter Basileus the courtesies,
assistance and recognition due a chosen leader, known in
Alpha Kappa Alpha as "The First Lady" of our chapter
• Each Former Supreme Basileus has been granted no further
financial obligation to the Sorority. This national procedure has
been adopted locally by vote of the chapter. She has voting
privileges for life at all Boulé and Regional Conferences.
• We sing the Hymn at all sorority sponsored events unless
otherwise directed. This includes monthly meetings, public
events, etc.
• Sorors always form a circle and join hands (right over left)
when singing the Hymn. If the facility does not lend itself to
this formation, the presiding officer should give specific
directions. No gestures accompany the singing of the Hymn--
it remains one of our most solemn and dignified acts of
identification with the sisterhood.
• Each Former Chapter Basileus remains a cherished member
of the chapter and is awarded, indefinitely, the courtesies and
recognition appropriate to express the gratitude and affection
she has earned through the countless hours of prayer,
planning and preparation which she has given in service to
Alpha Kappa Omega.
OUR PUBLIC IMAGE
• To remain always a lady in public places to enhance the image
of Alpha Kappa Alpha
