Ireland started with a 52 - 23 win over Scotland. Best for Ireland was the rink of Raymond 9
Stubbs, Andrew Morrison, Ronnie Stubbs & Stephen McMahon, who recorded a stunning
19 - 1 victory. Best for Scotland was the rink of R. McNeil, K. Peacock, G. Stewart & J. McK-
innon who scored a four on their last end and almost snatched a draw losing 10 - 11.
The Wales v England match was hotly contested as expected and ended with both Wales
and England winning two games but with England winning overall 40 - 36 best for England were
Lee Toleman, Barry Hedges, Bronagh Toleman & Alan Williams with an 18 - 3 victory. For Wales
Andrew Hudson, Michael John, Andrew Evans & Chris john won 15 - 3.
Wales bounced back in the next round beating Scotland 53 - 26, helped by a stunning 22 -
2 from Sean Hughes, Allan Slattery, Osian Evans & Andrew Evans, who started with two fives and
two two’s in the opening four ends. In the Ireland v England match the English fought hard and
won two of the four rinks but the other two English rinks were well beaten and Ireland duly won
40 - 27. England’s best came from Chris Willies, James Smith, Alan Jones & Gareth Davies who
won 11 - 6, whilst Ireland’s best rink were Alan Paul, Terry Crawford, Mark Wilson & Joseph Beattie
who won 14 - 4.
The third round saw Wales and Ireland were in a very tight match with two rinks each but
with Ireland taking the match 34 - 28 on shots, helped by an 11 - 3 from Raymond Stubbs, Andrew
Morrison, Ronnie Stubbs & Stephen McMahon. In the other match England duly beat Scotland
45 - 31, with Roger Wiggins, Gary Best, Ryan Knight & Danny Langdon chipping in with a 16 - 7.
The fourth round saw the start of a repeat of the first three rounds. Ireland continued on their
winning way with a 41 - 23 win over Scotland and with England scoring another very close 42 -
39 win over Wales.
The fifth and penultimate round saw England facing Ireland for the second time, with England
once again winning two of the four rinks but losing again but by just five shots at 36 - 41. Helping
to make the difference, Ireland’s Alan Paul, Terry Crawford, Mark Wilson & Joseph Beattie who
weighed in with a 12 - 6. For England, Ross Dunkley, Craig Strong, Jon Pitcher & Alan Williams
won 14 - 10.
The final round Saw England being pushed hard by Scotland but they won 50 - 35 effectively
ensuring England would finish second place. The Wales v Ireland match was really hard fought
all the way but Ireland edged home 34 - 28 despite losing two games. The best last end finish
came from Nick Evans, Peter Rees, Jac Edwards & Tom Harris who scored a four on the last end
to go from 5 - 7 to snatch a 9 - 7 win. Helping with the winning margin Alan Paul, Terry Crawford,
Mark Wilson & Joseph Beattie won 11 - 5.

the Singles Double
the Singles Double
In his opening Singles game, England’s Sam Harvey seemed
in control at 13 - 7 but Phil Ladd had other ideas and four ends
later he was just 12 - 13 going into the last end but Harvey
held his nerve and scored two for a 15 - 12 win. In the other
game Jal Richardson stunned his Scottish opponent with a 25
- 6 win.
Richardson had a much harder game against England’
Sam Harvey but still recorded a comfortable 15 - 9 result.
Meanwhile Phil Ladd bounced back with a 22 - 12 win over
Scotland.
“A” Singles Champion In the final round all Jal Richardson needed was a win
Jal Richardson with IIBA over Phil Ladd and the trophy was his. Despite the efforts of
President Mrs Flo McNally
the Welshman he could not prevent Richardson from winning
14 - 11 and he thus took the “A” Singles title remaining undefeated. In the other match the Scottish
Singles player was again found himself under the cosh s Sam Harvey ran out a 25 - 7 winner.
