Hempnall clinch South Norfolk title
Horsford visited Hempnall for their top of the table clash with hopes of a win
to keep their title dreams alive, but it was not to be as Hempnall wrapped up
another South Norfolk League championship title with an 8-2 home win.
Horsford knew that they had to record a good win if they were to delay
Hempnall’s title celebrations and the sides were still level at the break with
one win apiece. Hempnall’s Bernie Cudden, Owen Cranston & Neil Davidson
enjoyed a comfortable 19-9 win against Roger Frank’s but Lyn Chadwick, Sue
Fox & David Crosby hit back for the visitors beating Jack Gray, David Blundell
& Keith Cooke 17-11. The second half though saw Hempnall clinch the title
Robbie Lamb
15 - 9 winner with wins on both mats as Paul Baker’s triple beat Margaret Harman’s triple
14-10 and Charlie Archer’s triple beat Vic Webster 18-8.
Halvergate retain Bure League title with eight straight wins
Halvergate entertained rivals East Tuddenham in their last match of the season and a home win
completed a successful defence of the Bure League title. Mathematically the visitors could still have
snatched the title away but needed a 10-0 win and to outscore the home
side by 89 shots and that was never going to happen.
Jacky Smith, David Crosby & Jason Woods quickly extinguished
the visitors hopes with a 15-11 win against Trevor Brown’s triple. The
other first half game went Tuddenham’s way as Chris Willies’ triple beat
David Lamb’s triple by one shot.
The second half was also shared with Halvergate’s Robbie Lamb
winning by 15-9 against Mike Smail while Simon Willies replied for Tud-
denham with a one shot win against Keith Cooke’s triple. With the total
shots 59-51 in Halvergate’s favour they collected the two match points
for a 6-4 win and that made it eight wins out of eight.
In the Bure Leagues other match Thorpe Marriott entertained
Hevingham and a close match ended with both teams on 49 points.
Andy George and Derek Sheldrake skipped their Marriott triples to wins
Chris Mann
of 15-10 and 13-10 respectively while Selwyn Goldsmith’s Hevingham
triple won by 17-9. The other game finished at 12-12 between Tony 32 - 9 winner
Turner and David Sharpe. With the match points shared Thorpe Marriott finished with a 6-4 home
win due to winning on two mats and drawing a third.
Chris Willies wins the Bure Singles Title
Chris Willies of East Tuddenham is the new Bure Singles Champion after an impressive performance
earned him maximum points at Hevingham with defending champion Ryan Fox of Halvergate finish-
ing in the runner-up spot. England international Willies showed his class right from the start scoring
two full houses on the opening two ends of his first game against Horsford’s John Bugg in a game
that finished 13-5 in his favour.
On the other mat the always consistent Mandy Mar-
shall of Thorpe Marriott also made a great start winning
10-2 against Hevingham’s Chris Brooks. Session two saw
Halvergate’s Ryan Fox enter the fray but he found himself
4-1 down against John Bugg after three ends in a game
that finished 6-6. Meanwhile Chris Willies was storming
into a 12-3 lead against Chris Brooks but his shot differ-
ence took a hit on the last end as four shots to Brooks cut
the winning margin to 12-7.
The final session before the interval saw Ryan Fox
beat Mandy Marshall by 7-2 while Chris Brooks recorded
Bure Singles Champion a win beating John Bugg by 7-6.
