This left the last session to play with Hevingham knowing that even a draw against Thorpe Marriott
would keep the title in the possession of Hevingham. In a hard fought game Hevingham edged into
a 4-1 lead with two ends remaining and held on to win 5-2 to retain the title for Hevingham with seven
points.
Halvergate won by 5-1 against Horsford BC to finish on four points with their +8 shot difference
enough to claim second place ahead of Thorpe Marriott who also finished on four points with +1
shots. It was the fourth Bure Triples title for Teresa & Selwyn Goldsmith who previously won the
event in 1999, 2009 and then with Pat Williamson the last time it was held just prior to the Covid out
break. Pat Williamson was unable to play this time due to illness.

Editor - My thanks to Selwyn for all the Short Mat News. The Brilliant Nor-
folk Website is an example of a dedicated Norfolk Bowler. The amount of
work put in shows a wonderful dedication and I am glad he was successful
in the Bure Triples. I would recommend that every County Association and
Country takes a look at the Norfolk website www.shortmatnorfolk.co.uk.
The latest news section contains a tremendous amount of work.
How about your group doing something similar? Do you want the
World to know your activities and do your winners and achievers deserve
to have their stories told? What about your views on the sport and what we do. Through Indoor bowler
you can let everyone know about the sport of both Short Mat and Carpet Bowls.
Magazine Envy!
I have looked enviously at the professional presentation of other on-
line magazines such as inside Bowls, which is free by email
(https://www.insidebowls.com/our-magazine). Inside Bowls is the of-
ficial magazine of World Bowls, the global governing body of the sport.
Another one is Bowls International and Welsh Bowler, which only fo-
cusses on Wales.
There is of course lots of Advertising Money rolling in and they
have a much larger circulation in their versions of bowls that is proac-
tive of which our two are absolutely not.
These magazines can afford to employ professional people to visit
events, write and present their magazines. Nevertheless I do my best
in our publicity shy sport, which is basically ignored by England,
Wales, Scotland and Belgium, which is their right of course. The ex-
ception is the Irish, who through Seamus Kyne works hard on publicity and certainly helps with other
events, especially as I do not have the advertising income that allows me to visit the big ones, al-
though I try.
I am nevertheless happy with what I am able to do but I still prefer the printed word which al-
lows me to read a whole page in front of me. To this end in my email
for each on-line issue, I will also have a link to show the magazine in
a vertical page by page format, which some people may find easier,
or not as the case may be. Also, I recognise that not everyone can
read English, even if they can speak it, so I am prepared to include
articles in other languages, along with an English translation so that
everyone is covered.
I know that the future of both Short Mat and Carpet Bowls lays
outside the UK but at 77 I have a lot more sand at the bottom of the
hour glass of time than I have left at the top, so I hope someone else
who is prepared to cover our sports as world sports and not just their
own country or personal success will take over when I am no longer
here or able, which can’t be that far away.
