2018 MINOR league review
INF Jordan Zimmerman led the team in at-bats (446), hits (103), doubles (27), RBI (60) and total bases (173). He also ranked second in runs
(53) and games (111), as well as third in home runs (11) and fifth in triples (5). The Michigan State product earned the title of California League
Player of the Week for June 25 - July 1, for hitting .423 (11-for-26) with three doubles, one triple, two home runs and eight RBI in that span.
RHP Matt Ball appeared in 14 games (13 starts) for the 66ers while logging an 4-1 record. Among Inland Empire’s starting pitchers, Ball ranked
tied for first in WHIP (1.03), tied for second in wins, third in ERA (3.81), third in innings pitched (54.1) and fourth in strikeouts (55). Ball earned
the title of California League Pitcher of the Week twice in the 2018 campaign, first for the week of July 16 - 22 after pitching five scoreless
innings and allowing only one hit, and also for the week of July 30 - August 5 after earning a win after throwing five scoreless innings and
logging six strikeouts.
BURLINGTON BEES (50-84): The Burlington Bees, managed by Jack Howell (first season as manager), compiled a 50-84 record, going 30-39 in
the first half and 20-45 in the second half.
INF Julio Garcia led the Bees in multiple offensive categories, including in games (122), at-bats (456), hits (106), doubles (19) and RBI (53). Garcia
is one of five Bees to be selected as Midwest League Mid-Season All-Stars.
OF Torii Hunter Jr. ranked in the top three for the following Bees’ offensive categories: runs (59), hits (97), total bases (133). Hunter also ranked
first in triples (8) and stolen bases (24). Selected as a Midwest League Mid-Season All-Star.
RHP Austin Krzeminski compiled a 5-6 record with four saves in a team leading 39 appearances while posting a 2.23 ERA (92.2 IP - 23 ER). His
39 appearances inlcude five starts and a team-leading 19 games finished. Krzeminski ranked first in wins, games and innings pitched (92.2), and
ranked fourth in ERA, second in saves and third in strikeouts (72).
OREM OWLZ (22-54): The Orem Owlz, managed by Dave Stapleton (first season as manager), finished with a 22-54 overall record, going 12-26
in the first half and 10-28 in the second half.
INF Kevin Maitan produced a .248 batting average (65/262) and led the Owlz offense in at-bats (262), runs (42), hits (65), doubles (13), home
runs (8) and total bases (104).
RHP Christopher Molina went 4-4 with a 5.23 ERA with 70 strikeouts in 12 starts. Molina earned the title of Pioneer League Pitcher of the Week
(August 20 - 26) after earning a win and pitching five scoreless innings while only allowing one hit and tallying six strikeouts.
MINOR league
ARIZONA ANGELS (16-38): The Arizona League Angels, managed by Jack Santora (first season as manager), finished the season with a 16-38
record. The Angels went 8-20 and 8-18 in the second half.
INF Jeremiah Jackson was a power hitter for the Angels offense, batting .317 (26/82) with four doubles, two triples, a team-leading five home
runs, 14 RBI, seven walks and six stolen bases in 21 games.
RHP Parker Joe Robinson posted a 2-0 record over 11 relief appearances with a 0.44 ERA (20.1 IP - 1 ER) and 22 strikeouts.
DOMINICAN ANGELS (21-51): The Dominican League Angels, led by manager Hector De La Cruz (third season as manager), finished with a
21-51 record.
OF Jose Quezeda led the Angels offense in at-bats (248), runs (39), hits (64) and stolen bases (26), while also setting career highs in almost every
category including RBI (25) and home runs (2). Selected as a Domincan Summer League Mid-SeasonAll-Star.
RHP Kelvin Caceres finished his first year of professional baseball with a 2-7 record and 3.04 ERA (50.1 IP - 17 ER) along with a team-leading 13
games started and 61 strikeouts. Caceres logged three-or-more innings in 9 of his 13 starts and recorded at least one strikeout in all but one.
