Why is Victor Valley College Partnering with High Schools?
Many students in the Victor Valley College service area do not see themselves as college bound.
These students need a positive experience with college level work in order to build confidence
and aspire to attain a college degree or certificate. Through the College and Career Access
Pathways, students will experience Victor Valley College courses while still in high school,
realizing that they can complete college level work and reach their academic goals. This
translates into higher graduation rates for the high schools and increased transfer rates from the
high schools to Victor Valley College.
“Research suggests that dual enrollment can improve the preparation of high school students for
college by exposing them early to the academic demands of postsecondary education.
Moreover, it can be a powerful academic motivator for young people who did not previously
envision themselves in college.” (Ward & Vargas, 2012).
