Quantitative Data Analysis
                                              Simply Explained Using SPSS

                                Purpose of the Hypothesis

               1. The hypothesis is a testable statement that the researcher
                       can either reject or retain.

               2. Enables the researcher to make a statement about how the
variables in the study may be related.

               3. Stimulates a research endeavor that results in the
                       accumulation of new knowledge.

               4. The hypothesis provides a framework for reporting the
findings and conclusions of the study.

               5. Helps to organize the findings when writing a paper, more
                       readable

               6. Empirical observations can only support or not support
                       hypotheses.

               7. Hypotheses can only support or not support (falsify)
theories (cannot prove or disprove theories).

               8. It also helps us to specify the population, what type of data
we need, relationship between variables, statistical analyses
                       to use.

               9. A statistical hypothesis provides a specific relational
statement that can be statistically tested.
