3. The conclusions are stated in terms of the null hypothesis:
1. Reject the null hypothesis, which is not agreeing with the
null hypothesis.
2. Fail to reject the null hypothesis, which is a statement of
agreement with the null hypothesis. We never “accept” the
null hypothesis, just provide evidence that our sample is not
different from the population.
1. Example- 1
H 0: There is no significant relationship between teacher
salary and students performance.
Statistical form H 0: 1 = 2
H 0: 1 - 2 = 0
or
2. Example- 2
H 0: There is no significant difference in the emotional
stability between male employees and female employees.
Statistical form H 0: 1 = 2
H 0: 1 - 2 = 0
or
3. Alternative Hypothesis (H A): Statement that there is a
relationship among variables or there is a difference
between groups. For the conclusion “Reject the null
hypothesis,” the statistical test has provided strong
evidence in favor of the alternative hypothesis. If
differences or relationships are unlikely to be due to
“chance,” the null is rejected and alternative is supported.
