Quantitative Data Analysis
                                              Simply Explained Using SPSS

In a one-tailed (directional) test, the null hypothesis would
not be rejected unless the observed difference is in the
hypothesized direction. It indicates that the values will
increase or decrease, or the direction of the relationship.
The direction of the hypothesis affects which areas within
the curve result in a rejection of H0. It also influences our
                       choice for a critical value.

                                   Hypothesis Examples

               Types of Hypotheses Example 1

               1. Research Problem: Does spatial reasoning ability differ for
male and female middle school students?

               1. Null Hypothesis:

H O: There is no significant difference in the spatial
reasoning ability of male and female students.

                          H O: µ f = µ m

               2. Alternative Hypothesis:

H A: There is a significant difference in the spatial
reasoning ability of male and female students.

                          H A: µ f ≠ µ m
