Yayasan Belia Buddhist Malaysia (YBBM) organised the ‘2020/2021 Tertiary Education Grant Award’ Ceremony
online on 27th February 2021, awarding tertiary education grants worth RM 67,000 to 67 varsity students. More
than 80 university Buddhist youth leaders and students from all over Malaysia participated in this ceremony.

YBBM Chairperson Dato’ Ang Choo Hong said in his speech that the education grant was open for application
in September 2020 and received 128 applicants from 25 tertiary institutions. After an online interview and two
screening sessions, applications from 67 university students were approved, and each of them received RM
            1,000.

He cited a passage from the Buddhist text ‘Ekottaragama-sutra’: ‘There are two types of people in the world
who are most rare: those who know how to provide favour and those who know how to be grateful’. He
encouraged the benefitted students to learn to be grateful and to convert gratitude into action by continuing
to participate in Buddhist work in the future and actively promoting social activities that benefit the public.

YBBM Director Sek Chin Yong said that since 1985, YBBM has been promoting the Tertiary Education Grant
programme and has supported 498 tertiary students with an amount of nearly RM 500,000.
