Here is an example of two resonances.



                                                                       You will observe the


                                                                       first resonance has a


                                                                       larger Q than the


                                                                       second resonance.



                                                                       There is a greater


                                                                       degree of damping


                                                                       on the second


                                                                       resonance.











            Why are vibrations bad? They are noise sources –


            usually unwanted.


            Vibration is caused by a displacement of a


            mechanical component.



            Whenever a mechanical component is displaced,


            stress occurs.



            If you stress an object it will eventually fracture


            (break).
