P. 23

With each rotation it is stressed.

The greater the stress on each rotation (the greater

the vibration) the greater the probability of

            fracture – fracture mechanics.

Potentially after the component has been stressed

a sufficient number of times, it could fracture and

            catastrophic failure can occur.

Although it will have torsional stress, this is

relatively static for a fixed rotation rate

The frequency of the vibration is the number of

stresses the component suffers per second.

        Frequency

By now frequency has been discussed on several

            occasions - measured in Hz.

The frequencies we can hear range from 15Hz to

            20kHz.

        Fourier Transform

To observe the frequency contents of a signal x(t)

you can use the Fourier Transform which is

            expressed as,

                                                           22
