Little Falls to Amsterdam
Continuing east from Little Falls, and for the remainder of the trail to Albany, you are surrounded by the
Revolutionary War and Native American History the Mohawk Valley is famous for. In less than 3 miles
history hits you first with Herkimer Home sitting
smack in the middle of the bike trail! However, other
sites including Ft. Klock (right), Ft. Plain, Ft. Johnson,
Schoharie Crossing and many more will require you
cycle a mile or so to reach them. For excellent info on
bike routes through this outstanding region, visit the
Mohawk Valley Path Through History website. See
our “Along the Way” section for details.
On to Amsterdam, the very heart of the majestic Mo-
hawk Valley, and the history, natural beauty, and
amazing canal features continue. In the charming
towns
of Fort Plain, Herkimer and Canajoharie, you’ll find, food
and services as well as limited lodging, mostly provided by
charming B&Bs (see our B&B directory on our website).
In Amsterdam the ECT connects to the village, and to ser-
vices and amenities, via the Mohawk Valley Gateway
Overlook Bridge (above). Here you can also swap pedaling
for paddling with an outstanding guided kayak tour on the
Mohawk River, and in the evening enjoy dinner and con-
certs on the waterfront. (see “Along the Trail”)
