Newark to Seneca Falls
Newark to Seneca Falls is an optional route
for cycling the ECT and the benefits of this
option are great since it delivers you to Sen-
eca Falls and the amazing Finger Lakes, while
the “official” route takes you through a long
expanse of wilderness and farmland virtually
void of amenities and services.
But don’t be tempted to make a beeline from
Newark to Seneca Falls, the hills can be quite
fatiguing. However, the ride as presented on
this map is most enjoyable and you won’t
want to miss visiting Lyons (below) and Clyde
which offer great lunch options, wonderful
canal history, and some of the loveliest cy-
cling along the canal.
Upon reaching Seneca Falls, many cyclists plan an extra
day, or even two, in this beautiful area to allow time to
relax and explore. Of the many great things to do, one of
the best is a cycle trip along the Cayuga Lake Wine
Trail (see Along the Way). The scenery is breath-
taking and the wineries are wonderful!
Also in Seneca Falls, the Women's Rights National
Park and the Elizabeth Cady Stanton House are
among several attractions dedicated to the history
of the Women’s Suffragette Movement.
You’ll also want to plan some R&R time on the beach of beautiful Cayuga Lake which offers, great swim-
ming, kayak rentals, restaurants and camping, and to take in a few of the many events and seasonal
activities. You may even be inspired to rent a boat and spend some time on the water!
