        Going the Distance
How many miles to ride each day is an important consideration which must be determined based on
personal ability. Active, recreational cyclists may find that 30-40 miles per day allows plenty of time to
take in the sights while still covering some decent ground. However, more advanced cyclists may do far
more than that. If you are cycling with children, err on the
side of safety! Know your group’s abilities and plan ac-
        cordingly.
A good guide to help you determine how many miles to
tackle each day, is to determine how many miles your
group can ride comfortably in 1 hour, then multiply that
by 3 or 4 to calculate a reasonable daily distance.
For example, if your group can comfortably ride 10 miles
in 1 hour, you may decide to cycle approx. 30-40 miles per
day which allows for plenty of time off your bikes for
sightseeing, lunch and rest stops, and enjoying the remarkable canal features and history, the natural
beauty, and the many great points of interest along the way!
