The “Close to Home” Body
This is the person that works, lives, and relaxes within a few miles of home, for the most
part. Chances are you already know multiple routes to get from point to point. However,
you might want to spend some time considering alternative transportation, like walking.
Do you know the most direct routes from place to place? Do you know easy places to
cross bodies of water, ditches, ravines, etc.?
The “Regular Route” Junkie
This person travels a bit further during their routine, but normally by a few select routes.
I was this guy for several years, driving 50 miles one way to work five days a week. For
you, tertiary routes take a little more planning and intentional research. Also, you need a
broader range of alternative transportation. Do you have access to a bicycle if your
primary means is compromised and you are at the longest distance from home? How
about effective means for crossing large bodies of water?
The “Where Am I Again?” Roadie
This is the hardest person to plan for. It requires intentional research and awareness.
This is the business traveler who finds themselves in a different city every week. They
heavily rely on public transportation or other people to get them from place to place.
Creative means of alternative transportation may need to be acquired on the fly in a
crisis.
While each of these travelers has different challenges, there are tools that all of them
can use to gain the knowledge necessary to travel safely in every situation. We will
address some of those tools in the next article.
