Assistance Fund
The meeting noted that the committee has to report on the fund at every
Board meeting.
8.2 Consumer Assurance
Compartments
The meeting noted that 104 compartments were registered and that
more farms showed interest in getting registered.
The reimbursement that SAPPO undertook to provide for serological test
claims was currently 80%. At that rate SAPPO needs to have a R2-million
budget to cover the serological tests done.
Decision:
A new applicant can be reimbursed for three sets of tests. In future only
50% of the survey testing at compartments shall be covered, including
three sets of tests in the last six months. Reimbursement for all the tests
conducted since 1 January 2020 should be reduced to 50%. EB 01/2020-
25/2/20
FMD
No payments shall be reimbursed for ad-hoc tests done for FMD.
Animal Identification and Traceability
The GS1 system was adopted as part of the Pork360 traceability system.
It is recognised internationally and globally and is used by Meat Matrix,
retailers and abattoirs. It generates the origin of the pork (GLN code).
VET App – Risk Mitigation
The Vet App is used for passive surveillance and will be used by
accredited veterinarians. It will assist in providing the required data for
exports and allow for greater understanding of the risks to the industry.
The App will help digitalising Pork360, compartmentalisation and
veterinary tests.
Industry Protection
As a result of the African Free Trade zone, SAPPO is in the process of
developing networking platforms in an attempt to ensure that
movement of animals and animal products occurs in a responsbile
manner. The African Society of Pig Veterinarians, which had its inaugral
meeting in October 2019, is one such platform.
