Rookie Chef Challenge recipients happy to receive their
prizes
SACHEF (SA Culinary and Hospitality Educators Forum) joined forces with
SAPPO during lockdown to launch a recipe development competition for first
year rookie chef students.
The challenge went out to 25 Chefs Schools all over South Africa, with students
having to learn as much as they can about SA Pork and the different cuts on
their own steam, at home. They had to compile a dish which will yield as many
as possible portions for R100.
Initially, the competition did not involve practical cooking sessions at the
training academies. However, during in a more relaxed stage of lockdown,
students were back in the training kitchens and First Year students stirred up a
storm of pork dishes in preparation to send in their entries.
Ten prize winners each received a Takealot voucher to the value of R250 from
SAPPO for their efforts.
SA Pork’s Giving with Gratitude involvement continues
SAPPO is approximately 60kg of pork cubes every week to poverty relief
feeding schemes.
The hot meals are cooked and packaged by Chef School Students and are
distributed by NGO organisations to impoverished communities.
