MATH LAB
Level: I – Remedial Credits: 2.5 or 5
This class is designed to remediate basic skills for the student who does not demonstrate proficiency in
course material or standardized tests. Emphasis is placed on meeting the individual needs of the students
through diagnosis and remediation of skills to raise general competence. Skills for algebra and geometry will be
addressed. A major focus of this course will be the preparation of students for State and National standardized
tests. Students will be assigned to this course based upon student performance on standardized testing, teacher
recommendation, and previous year math course performance. This course is taken in addition to the regularly
scheduled graduation course requirement. The number of credits and the method in which this course is
deployed will be based on individual student need year to year. A variety of scheduling options are applied.
SCIENCE
Introduction: Three years of science are required for graduation. More specific graduation requirements can be
found on page 3 of this guide. Students who anticipate taking college level coursework or pursuing a science-
th
related career (e.g. technical and health professions) should elect biology and chemistry, in addition to their 9
grade course. New Jersey State four-year colleges and universities require at least two years of laboratory science-
-generally biology and chemistry. Recent developments in science and technology make this area a "must" for a
successful career in tomorrow's society.
