Level: II- College Preparatory Credits: 05
This lab based course will develop essential biological concepts with emphasis on the cell as the basic unit
of structure and function of all organisms. Areas of study include, but are not limited to the following: cellular-
molecular biology, matter-energy relationships, heredity and genetics, biotechnology, evolution, ecology and the
human impact upon living systems. Visual and multi-media demonstrations, laboratory experimentation, and
inquiry based activities form an integral part of the course. This course is in alignment with state standards, and
is designed to assist students in achieving proficiency on the state course competency exam.
        Pre-requisite: Inquiry into the Sciences.

        CHEMISTRY
Level: IV - Honors Credits: 06
This course covers the same content as Chemistry - Advanced, but at a more rigorous pace. Additional lab
work is completed and analyzed. Students must be able to work independently in lab situations & out of class.
Pre-requisite: A grade of 86 in Advanced Level Algebra.

Level: III - Advanced Credits: 06
Chemistry is a course of study designed to prepare the student for the chemistry that may be encountered in
college, nursing school, or any related technical field. Chemistry is the study of matter: its structure, its
composition, and the changes it undergoes. Some of the major topics covered are: atomic theory, the Periodic
Table of the Elements, chemical reactions, acid-base theory, chemical bonding, kinetic molecular theory, and
solutions. Laboratory experiments are done as often as possible to support the topics that are studied. A strong
Algebra I background is essential. Pre-requisite: A grade of 86 in Algebra.

        ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE
Level: II- College Preparatory Credits: 05
This laboratory course meets five times per week and allows students to be immersed in the study
of physical, biological, and earth systems sciences that shape our environment. Students will develop
an understanding of natural and man-made environments and environmental problems the world faces. Topics
such as matter and energy transformations, properties of Earth materials, climate and weather, and
biogeochemical cycles will be included. The course is designed to develop knowledge of scientific principles
        and to improve laboratory skills.
