            – The Sixth Pivotal Turning Point

The Assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. proved to be
the next major turning point for America. Like Abraham
Lincoln, Martin Luther King was clearly one of America’s

greatest individual leaders. Yet, he did not live to see

the total fruits of his labors. He was assassinated on
April 6, 1968. This tragedy occurred five days before the
Civil Rights Act of 1968 was signed into Law by President

            Lyndon Johnson.

Again, it seems that the failings of the post-Lincoln era

were repeated. Just as the leaders who followed

President Lincoln lost sight of the core tenants of
Lincoln’s wisdom, so did the leaders who followed
Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. While they ostensibly

remained committed to the goals, principles, and
precepts of Dr. King’s Dream, they followed the path of

becoming political partisans. Bishop Wellington Boone
            50-1
, once remarked, “They transferred the civil rights
movement from the steps of the altar, to steps of big
            government.”
