The Melrose After School Program is run by Coconut Grove Cares Inc., the same organization in charge of the
Barnyard Community Center in the West Grove. The Barnyard was created to provide safe surroundings for
the children of that neighborhood. Syliva Jordan, founder of the Barnyard program, was asked to create a
program in the Melrose area of Miami-Dade County. The Junior High as well as the Intermediate have
established a relationship with these Melrose children. The Junior High has participated in activities such as
playing, drawing, reading and swimming together with the children. The Melrose children love to visit
Carrollton to swim and play on Carrollton’s spacious property. Carrollton students have most certainly
benefited from getting to know new friends and learning from them through the Melrose children’s plays and
artistic performances.
