Prayer is an important part of Sacred Heart
education. From a very young age students are
taught the importance of prayer and love for
God’s creatures on earth. On October 1 2001,
the first graders took part in the annual Blessing
of the Animals. This event is held in honor of
Saint Francis of Assisi, and celebrates God’s
creatures. Each girl arrived with their parents
and their pet. The service began with a prayer
and led into the blessings. If they did not own a
pet, then students brought a stuffed animal.
The children sang the prayer of Saint Francis of
Assisi. At the end of the event, Sister Little
blessed the animals and closed with a prayer.
