Five of the original 11 acres of the gas works are now occupied by the Peter Galasso-owned Antarenni Iron Works, and a recent sale of another portion of the site was made by Galasso to Rose Ferrara, who is said to be planning an additional light manufacturing set up.Heavy manufacturing or M-3was never the question says Levine, but rather the decision foror against using the site and ultimately the entire area surrounding the canal, for essentially residential purposes. The question transcends the High School issue and revolves around the choice between housing, parks, and cultural facilities for the Gowanus area or trucks, manufacturing and pollution, he believes. The people who voted for the amendment are essentially opposed to the residential R-6 zoning, Levine feels. So far the Mayor%u2019s Committee Chairman, Don Elliott has not responded to PHOENIX requests for a statement relating to his decisive vote.New Gallery OpensThe new Con Ed Building, 30 Flatbush Avenue, is the new home for a major exhibition center of the arts %u2014 The Kings Gallery.
