The library is for kids only. %u201cWe relate the exhibits to the children, and then expand on it,%u201d says Woods. %u201cThat%u2019s true of each of our exhibits.%u201dSounds Around has been extremely popular, says Woods, adding that more comprehensive interactive installations are planned in the future. %u201cWe find children learn through these adventures,%u201d he says.The Sounds Around exhibit is essentially a human exhibit by 3:30pm. The instruments are in full swing. The drums are banged, the string instruments plucked, the microphones sung into. The children become a part of the installation as you hear the difference between the silence and the cacophony. And as they call to each other across the room in noisy exuberance ,t he exhibit takes on yet another dimension %u2014 it sounds like fun.%u201cSounds Around%u201d continues through November. The Brooklyn Children%u2019s Museum is at 145 Brooklyn Ave. Hours are: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 2-5pm; Thursday, 2-8pm; Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, 10am-5pm. Voluntary contribution is $2 adults; $1 children. For information, call 735-4400.College Opens DoorsProspective students and their parents are invited to learn more about St. Francis College in Brooklyn Heights at an open house on Nov. 16. While the atmosphere at the event will be informal, there are still %u201clots of stimulating activities planned,%u201d says coordinator Eileen McCallion.Visitors will be greeted by current students, who will give them packages of gifts and materials about the college and take them on individual tours of the school%u2019s Remsen Street campus. They will have the opportunity to view special exhibits in the science laboratories and there will also be special displays in the areas of accounting and business law. In addition to the campus tour, guests may also take a free one-hour %u201cextended campus%u201d bus tour of the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood. The day%u2019s activities run from l-4pm.All academic departments will be represented at tables in the college%u2019s gymnasium and %u201cprospective students are encouraged to ask faculty members about curriculum, careers or other concerns,%u201d says McCallion. Representatives from each of the college%u2019s student organizations will also be there to discuss extracurricular activities. Information on financing a college education will be available in the school%u2019s Founders%u2019 Hall and officers of the Financial Aid Department will be present to answer questions and %u2014 with the help of a computer %u2014 they will be able to give instant estimates of the amount of financial aid students can expect based on income information that the students or their parents supply.%u201cThe friendliness and individual attention which characterize collegiate life at St. Francis will be evident during the Open House,%u201d adds McCallion. %u201cProspective students will be welcome to chat aoout any aspects of college life with young people who are currently students at St. Francis College.%u201dFor further information, call 522-2300.St. Joe%u2019s Is OpenSt. Joseph%u2019s College in Clinton Hill will hold an open house program for prospective students, their parents, high school guidance counselors, and friends Sunday, Nov. 2,1 to 3pm at 245 Clinton Avenue.The open house program will feature faculty consultations; student conducted campus tours; admissions, scholarship and financial aid counseling; and career counseling. For additional information, call 636-6868.Slope Day Care OpensThe Methodist Hospital has recently opened its MHB Child Care Center in Park Slope. The Center is located in a renovated brownstone at 515 6th Street.There is one caregiver for every four infants, every four toddlers, and every seven three and four year olds. Emphasis in the program is placed on encouraging the children%u2019s curiosity, independence and selfexpression. The pre-school program will stress experience in science, art, math, language arts and computers. The infants and toddlers will participate in activities which stress motor development and language acquisition. Breakfast, hot lunch and a snack will be provided by the Methodist Hospital Dietary Department.The Center is open 7am-8pm. Mondaythrough Friday. For further information call 768-4873. %u2014 J.C.Chen Picked For OperaSt. Ann%u2019s school student Wendy Chen, has been chosen to work as a student composer for the Metropolitan Opera Guild In-School Residency Program at P.S. 314 in Brooklyn. The program, %u201cOpera From The Inside Out,\volves three artists working with eighth grade students. As a student composer,Chen will be responsible for composing, accompanying and directing all rehearsals and performances.A 1982 graduate of St. Ann%u2019s School also received recent notoriety.
