Carb Cycling
What is it?
Carb cycling is a planned manipulation and variation of carbohydrate
intake in order to maintain metabolism along with workout
performance.
It is most beneficial when used for a short-term and is not favorable for
long term application.
The way this is implemented is by keeping protein and fat intake
relatively constant while carbohydrate intake is manipulated. Carb
cycling also includes calorie cycling, just from the adjustment (high/
low) in carbohydrate calories.
The best application of carb cycling is used on higher level athletes,
those looking to improve body composition (such as physique or
bodybuilding). These athletes tend to be more compliant with their
nutritional adherence already.
In carb cycling, your week is divided among three types of days:
• no carb days
• low-carb days
• high-carb days
