Page 134 - The Skinny On Your Diet Plan
P. 134
A juice cleanse or diet can be very expensive. Most premade bottles
on average cost $8. This could total up to $200/month. The
equipment needed for juicing at home can be quite pricey too,
although this is
a onetime expense. Compared to a regular trip to the grocery store,
you will have to buy double and triple the amount of food than you
normally would because one juice requires a large amount of produce.
Most weight loss is water, and this will typically be seen in the early
days of the juice cleanse. Plenty of water is stored in muscles within
glycogen. On a low calorie diet those glycogen stores get depleted and
the water within them are lost.
There have been reports of depression or mood swing issues occurring
when on a juice cleanse. The brain will not get enough fatty acids
which can result in feeling depressed. This is because omega-3’s are
needed to increase serotonin levels.
Serotonin is a chemical that has a wide variety of functions in the
human body. It is sometimes called the happy chemical, because it
contributes to wellbeing and happiness. Low levels of serotonin have
been linked to depression.
At the end of the day a juice cleanse does not provide enough calories
to meet basic energy requirements. This will ultimately result in your
metabolism slowing down because it goes into “conservation mode”.
Going too low in calories for too long will have the opposite desired
effect.
