Sailor Boys No later than 1950s. eBay purchase out of Pensacola, FL, a Navy base, in 2013. 70"x88½" Fabric:
Cotton. Batting: Thick. Backing: Purple cotton. Edge: Black tape machined to the front and caught in back
by hand. Piecing: Appliqués with embroidery are by hand; blocks are joined by machine. Quilting: By
hand, clamshell pattern, 4 stitches to the inch. Condition: Contains a faded stripe horizontally through the
middle. Faint yellowing of 2 white fields. Comment: I enjoy this take-off on the traditional sunbonnet Sam
pattern.
