my mom had a
quilt like that
Appliquéd Rose Wreaths, Vases with Flowers, Vines, Berries on Edges 1800s based upon fabric, dyes, motif, style.
eBay purchase. 88"x89" Fabric: Cotton. Batting: Cotton, light weight, clean. Backing: Cotton. Edge: Separate,
applied by hand, and worn through. Piecing: Appliqué by hand, squares joined by machine. Quilting: By
hand, 8 stitches to the inch, in a 1" grid over vases of flowers; in diagonal lines ½" apart inside the wreaths;
in diagonal lines in the border in sets of three parallel lines ½" apart, 1" from the next set of parallel lines.
Condition: Good. The binding is worn out. I see two ½" tears to the white, and two barely detectable white
patches within the curve of a vines on the edge. Quilt stitches are missing in a 4" area of one corner. There
is faint browning in two places, but I wouldn’t try treating it at risk of making the reds pop and the greens
fade. Comment: The green leaves are chrome yellow-green. The (slight) wear to the surface of the flowers is
typical of turkey red. The berries along the perimeter vines are stuffed, trapunto style.
