Baskets, Blue and White 1930s. eBay purchase prior to 2011 from vendor GB-Best (Donna Vitale.) 66"x76"
Fabric: Cotton. Batting: Thin. Backing: Cotton muslin. Edge: A one-inch border of blue matching the field is
machined to the front and caught by hand in back. Piecing: Probably by machine except basket handles are
appliquéd by hand. However, the stitchring is so fine that it appears machine stitched. Quilting: By hand
at 12 stitches per inch. There is a 1" grid over the basket and a canoe or fat leaf shape over the white field
and base of the basket. The blue fields have a 4-petaled star surrounded by a 1" grid. There is a heart in
each corner. Condition: Very good. There are no discernible flaws. The quilt has been washed probably only
once; the quilting guidelines done in pencil show in some of the white fields. It has a crisp line-dried feel.
Comment: Popular thin blue-and-white genre.
