Map of the US with States Data 1960 or later, possibly a 1976 bicentennial project of a type popular at the
time. eBay purchase in 2013. 103"x94" Fabric: Cotton. Batting: Medium thick. Backing: Cotton. Edge: A
blue tape matching the outer blue border is applied ½" to each side by hand. Piecing: The states and stars
are applied to hexagons that are joined by machine, as are the borders. The stars are appliquéd by hand
with a blanket stitch. The state data is embroidered by hand. The map of the U.S. at the center is stippled
embroidery with direction of lines changed to illustrate state borders. Quilting: By hand around all seams
and stars, 6 stitches to the inch. Condition: Excellent. One spot off the coast of California. Comment: The
state data shown is a map of the state with its capital, its state bird and flower, its date of admission to
the union, and the order of its admission. This is probably a professionally designed quilt. Map quilts are
rare.
