Folk Art Indian Chiefs 1890-1925 estimated from color of the once-red Indians; probably post WWI purple.
eBay purchase 2017. 44"x50½ Fabric: Cotton, purple is polished cotton. Batting: Medium weight. Backing:
Pink and white gingham cotton. Edge: Separate. Piecing: Machine; appliqué is by hand in tiny stitches.
Quilting: By hand in 1½" squares in border; In lines parallel to the zig-zags ¼" apart; in blocks, diagonals
¾" apart meeting at points in the center. Condition: Good. Some purple has transferred to the field in one
block; Red appears faded; pink cast to blocks might indicate fading of red. Comment: The Indian design
strongly resembles popular antique weather vane design. Nothing comparable found; too cool!
