Cigar Silks 1900. Tacoma, WA antique show about 1996. 52"x65" Fabric: Silk cigar ribbons. Batting: None;
white cotton foundation cloth. Backing: Silk, gold to match the front. Edge: Tape, machine stitched to the
front. Piecing: Machine with hand turkey-track embroidery on all edges. Quilting: Tied with the knot on
the back. Condition: Very good. Soiling around the back edges from handling. Of 252 ribbons, 9 have split
(all blue-gray). Comment: The silks include at least 38 different labels. Names are Spanish, German, and
English. "Tom Keefe" and "La Integridad Spokane" suggest a Pacific Northwest nexus (an attorney acquain-
tance descended from the Spokane Keefes). A full-sized cigar silk quilt with ribbons in a more intricate
pattern than this was featured on The Antiques Roadshow in about 1996 and was appraised at $3,000.
