Scherenschnitte Top fabric is 1930s; back may be 1940s. eBay purchase from Pennsylvania 2015. 86"x86.5"
Fabric: Cotton. Batting: Thin. Backing: Cotton print, 1" dark brown geometric design. Edge: Separate pink
tape applied by machine. Piecing: Appliquéd by hand in stitches too tiny to count. Quilting: By hand, 8
stitches per inch, echoing inside the appliqués. Larger green areas between the motifs have wreaths, with 4-
petaled compass stars and 1" grids filling in. The light border has braids and the dark border has feathers.
Condition: Very good. There is a slightly faded spot several inches long in the dark green field. Comment: I
removed loose fragments of brown embroidery thread in the center of the middle motif. I suspect it was
once a maker’s initials, name or date.
