This year’s luncheon featured the Humanitarian Awards Recipient, Former Top Teen from the Nonpareil Chapter, the
Honorable Councilwoman Erika Green.
Erika L. Green is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a product of the East Baton
Rouge Public School System and graduate of Belaire High School. She later received
a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a specialization in Juvenile Justice from
Prairie View A & M University. At graduation, she received the highest student hon-
or, Student Humanitarian. She returned to her hometown and attended Southern
University Law Center where she received her Juris Doctorate.
Erika Green has been practicing law at her Baton Rouge firm, The Law Office of
Erika Green, LLC. for five years. Her community impact extends to board member-
ships of the Gloryland Educational Resource Center, Inc., YWCA, and JK Haynes
Charter School. She is also an active member of the Baton Rouge Branch of the
NAACP & Baton Rouge Delta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,
Inc., Junior League of Baton Rouge, Forum 35, NOBLE, and Louis A. Martinet So-
ciety. She is also a member of Gloryland Baptist Church.
Erika L. Green was a Top Teen in the Nonpareil Chapter of Top Ladies of Distinc-
tion, Incorporated which is located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
She is the newly elected councilwoman and serves as Metropolitan Councilmember representing District 5. Area I was elat-
ed to honor a former Top Teen, Councilwoman Erika Green.
Top Teens of America participated in numerous activities, competitions and leadership activities during the conference. Ar-
ea I Teens were afforded the opportunity to visit the Old Statehouse at which they learned about the history of the State of
Louisiana with the assistance of State Representative Ted James, Former Nonpareil Top Teen.
Area I Top Teens were fortunate to spend time at Southern University. Teens were welcomed by the Southern University
Chancellor and numerous high level dignitaries. Southern University students served as tour guides for the Top Teens.
Campus financial aid personnel explained the process for entering into Southern and other colleges. Teens discussed cam-
pus life with student guides. Several Teens were afforded a tour of the campus museum of which Dr. Tarver was the cura-
tor.
One of the highlights of the conference for Top Teens was the inaugural Spelling Bee. This year, Area I Top Teens partici-
pated in the Spelling Bee under the direction of Area I Top Teens Advisor, Lady Mary Thomas. Top Teen award winners
were recognized at the Me and My Mentor Awards Breakfast
